The short version

You do not need an account to read DailyOrigin, and we do not ask for one. We collect the minimum needed to run the site, understand roughly how it is used, and serve advertising.

What we collect

1. Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard technical data with each request: IP address, user agent, referring page, requested URL and timestamp. This is used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. Logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted.

2. Analytics

We measure aggregate usage — which articles are read, how people arrive, roughly where in the world they are. Our "Most read" list is built from per-article hourly counters that store no identifier of any kind. Where a third-party analytics service is enabled, it is named in our Cookie Policy.

3. Advertising

When advertising is active, our advertising partners may set cookies or similar identifiers to measure and, where permitted, personalise ads. In regions where consent is legally required, personalised advertising is not enabled until you give it. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings link in our footer.

4. Contact form

If you write to us we receive your name, email address, the message, and technical metadata. We use it to reply and to keep a record of correction requests. Messages are retained for twelve months and then deleted automatically.

5. Embedded content

Articles sometimes embed third-party content such as videos or social posts. These providers can see that your browser requested their content and may set their own cookies. Their privacy policies govern that data, not ours.

What we do not do
